IndiaGermany in NING
As I mentioned in a previous post, I am working on developing a community of Indian nationals who are on temporary work assignments in Germany. When I visit my client companies I always run into tens of these Indians. They usually congregate in groups and I have not tried to mingle with them yet but I will very soon. I am so curious as to how they are getting on here in Germany. After all, you can't find two cultures as divergent as Indian culture and German culture.
Instead of just chatting with them and listening to anecdotes about interesting experiences they have had, I decided to establish a ning group so that their experiences can be saved in written form for the eventual benefit of their fellow Indians in Germany. I hope to develop cross-cultural discussion groups to discover intercultural communication stategies that help improve the effectiveness of integration in the German working world.
This, of course, is a highly complex undertaking as Moslem Indians from Rajasthan can be quite different from Hindu Indians from Andra Pradesh and German company cultures certainy vary dramatically. There are hundreds of variables but that is, in my experience, what makes intercultural explorations like this so incredibly interesting. If you follow my blog you will already know that I am extremely interested Indian culture so this is the perfect opportunity to connect with India in Germany.
If you are an Indian national and have exerience working in Germany, please get in touch so I can send you an invitation to join the platform.
If you are not familiar with Ning I strongly advise you to check it out. It is a very quick and extremely easy way to create free internet-based social communities.
Namesté and more on this as it develops...
