Part of the reason I am here in the USA now is to look at different school cultures and examine the different learning conditions, communities, methodologies and results achieved. Before touring several schools both public and private in the Baltimore area, I am first attending graduation ceremonies for the Mount St. Joseph High School class of 2008. Mount St. Joseph is private, all-boy, high school in Baltimore MD that was established in 1877. The school is very well-equipped and fairly culturally diverse. Regular tuition is currently $10,300 per year. The school offers edline, a online monitoring system through which parents can monitor student grades, course documents and homework. Real blended learning has not yet been introduced. The contrast between a school like this and most German public schools is extreme. Still there are many things to learn by examining the contrasts in more detail and focusing on how each particular school assures quality in education.
How can quality in education actually be seen?
