The Lancelot School is starting with the first commercial cycle of the LANCELOT live online trainer certification program in January. LANCELOT stands for LANguage Learning with CErtified Live Online Teachers and aims to professionalize language teaching in virtual classroom environments.

I have been invited to act as master trainer for the program which will be conducted with
Heike Philips of Let’s Talk Online. The program will extend over the next 14 weeks and involves three main strands:
  • Methodology
  • Intercultural Communicative Competence
  • Technology

Being master trainer means I have to integrate these three strands into the synchronous and asynchronous environments and manage the learning paths for the group in the more flexible parts of the program.

The participants are all professional language trainers and come from as far afield as Japan, Bulgaria, the USA and Italy. The international nature of the project makes it particularly enjoyable for me: I always seize the opportunity to sharpen my intercultural skills by learning from my culturally diverse groups. Learning is the best way to teach!

We will not meet f2f, but will work together exclusively online using a variety of virtual classroom solutions like webtrain, spreed and adobe connect. We have set up an experimental community platform in ning for our asynchronous communications. Upon successful completion of the program the participants will be awarded the Lancelot certificate through ICC Europe and go on to teach their own learners using cutting-edge virtual classroom technologies.
