I was in China for the very first time. This was really exciting! My aim there was to meet with a few contacts at universities and then do a full-immersion intercultural learning program in Beijing, other major cities and in the countryside. This was a complete success!
The trip getting here with Lufthansa and SAS, however, was a disaster. I was flown all over Europe before getting to Beijing. What is going on at Lufthansa?
My experiences in Beijing, Taiyuan, Datong and Wutai Shan were, in a word: brilliant. The variety of people I met from all walks of life were the friendliest and most warm-hearted I think I have ever met. China is indeed inspiring. There are many, many problems, still - the energy, optimism and kindness of the people there are things I can get excited about.
My thanks go to Ms Lee in Datong, Yue Mei Zhou and Ke Rao in Germany for the little things they did that were so important to me while I was there. I can hardly wait to go again...
