- Heike Philip, Lancelot School, and I, delivered a joint presentation on the LANCELOT project at Sprachen & Beruf in Düsseldorf, Germany. We opened a virtual classroom and were joined by James Shepard, Digital Publishing, and a few project members for an interactive presentation involving both virtual and F2F audiences.
The conference, as always, was as interesting and productive as ever. It was fun to introduce a few people to each other and to see friends and associates from far and wide. This is a great forum to catch up on what everybody is doing.
It was really great to see my former "primetime" mentor Christel Schneider of ICC - The European Language Network. Christel has such a pleasant, calming personality that is so perfect for the online teaching environment. I have heard her voice so often online, I always do a double-take listening to her F2F. Christel and the Cornelsen Akademie were instrumental in teaching me best practice way back when. It is always great to reconnect!
I also was happy to see Ute Steen, Birgit Winterscheid and Dan Gorin from Phase 6 there too. This was their first time at the conference so I tried my best to connect them. We had a good time mingling and talking with a wide range of participants and presenters.
This time we saw some extremely engaging presentations delivered by Bob Dignen and Ken Taylor and had a chance to chat with both of them afterwards. I have admired their work for such a long time; this was a particular pleasure. Both Bob and Ken have brought out two new highly recommendable books on business English skills:
I also met again with Ian McMaster, Editor-in-chief, and Deborah Capras, Online Content manager of Business Spotlight. I had the pleasure of meeting Business Spotlight's Kathrin Hauger for the very first time, which - as you can imagine if you know her writing and recordings - was really fun. Business Spotlight is such a great product; it is always fascinating to interact with the people who are behind it!
The conference was two days of running from one presentation to the next, plus networking with a bunch of fascinating people between sessions - what more could a business English aficionado want?
Astrid Mendoza and the entire team did a terrific job again in creating a conference that I certainly consider an absolute "must".
