- U.S. English services a few mid-sized German companies where we run blended learning programs on different scales. One of these is now struggling with blended learning and the transition to this kind of learning culture. The struggle is one of adaptation to change in general, but a few essentials are missing as far as conducting a successful blended learning program:
- The company has no computer training room for demonstration and practice
- Some staff in leadership positions have been inactive and do not fully recognize their function as a role model to the other participants
- Staff can perform routine IT functions, but are reluctant to do more and embarrassed to ask for help.
- The initially enthusiastic IT guy has disappeared from the platform

Sounds bleak, doesn't it? We are not giving up. This is the reality for many German mid-size companies. Life long learning is an ideal that is difficult to get across when people are content with their own skill level. Of course leadership is required to foster change and to bring about an understanding of the importance continuous skill improvement. I am absolutely convinced that knowledge and skill play a definitive role in maintaining a competitive edge in today's flat world. I am working on it -always learning - optimistic ... and realistic!
